‘Sudden Superhero Syndrome Shtick’
Score: 4/5

The superhero shtick is getting on a bit, but the latest common variant seems to be ‘a bunch of unrelated people unexpectedly gain different superpowers’. It has happened in a few TV shows and books, and maybe other places I’m just not that familiar with.

It happens here too. Even though it’s a familiar trope the author does have an interesting spin on it all. Not just the setting, not just the way the powers are gained, but the powers and personalities are intriguing.

This is the first book of a series so it should be interesting to watch.
