“New Old School Sci-Fi”
I loved this book. I love how it’s packed with ideas about who we are, where we come from, and where we’re going. It reminds me of a lot of ‘classic’ science fiction in the way it presents ideas but the ideas are bang up to date, both in terms of technology and networks, and in terms of ideas like the Great Filter.
It’s enjoyable enough to read, although it’s no great romp. It can seem a bit like Stand On Zanzibar (I think that’s intentional), and sometimes some bits of it can be quite heavy. It’s quite rewarding though and I did thoroughly enjoy it.
There aren’t enough books like this out there.
